The city has received many inquiries from residents asking about what types of resources and services are being provided to the City’s homeless and the steps being taken to address their concerns. As part of the City’s ongoing effort to reduce homelessness and to address the concern of residents, the city employs two full-time Community Outreach Workers to provide outreach services 7 days a week. As the City’s outreach providers, one of their goals is to better understand the needs of the homeless within the community. The Community Outreach Workers coordinate closely with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Code Compliance staff, and Park Rangers to provide outreach and case management for homeless individuals and families. The Community Outreach Workers also provide the appropriate resources and referrals for those in need of assistance via their network of outreach partners within South Orange County. Through intensive case management our community outreach workers offer services and resources in the form of: attending all Orange County Housing Authority match meetings pertaining to housing vouchers/rapid rehousing programs/and case conferencing, constant engagement and building of rapport and trust, food, clothing, hygiene, transportation assistance, family reunification, referrals to all homeless and domestic violence shelters, medical attention via Orange County Health Care Agency, mental health assistance via Orange County Health Care Agency Outreach and Engagement, counseling resources, financial literacy information, social services assistance, SSI/SSDI assistance, assistance in obtaining state funded phones, homeless prevention via affiliate agencies that provide rental assistance, drug and alcohol treatment referrals, as well as storage and disposal of all property and/or trash associated with any encampments.
