What is the purpose of the Coastal Advisory Committee?

The purpose of the Coastal Advisory Committee is to serve in an advocacy role to outside agencies, organizations and individuals to address the beach as a treasured resource in terms of its recreational and economic benefits.  The City has experienced a dramatic loss of beach sand, which has caused damage to beach facilities.  Also, urban runoff and how it affects water quality has become an imminent concern to the City.

When and where do they meet?
The Coastal Advisory Committee meets every other month (odd numbered months) on the third Thursday at 4 PM in City Hall Council Chambers located at 910 Calle Negocio, San Clemente, CA 92673.

How can I present comments to the Coastal Advisory Committee?

The Coastal Advisory Committee represents you, the citizen. Your input is important. Members of the audience who wish to address the Committee are requested to complete one of the forms near the entrance of the meeting room and submit it to the Chairperson.

Who is on the Coastal Advisory Committee and how do they get their positions?

The Coastal Advisory Committee consists of seven citizens who are appointed by the City Council to 2-year terms. A few months before committee member terms expire, the City Clerk posts information on how interested citizens may apply for appointment to the committee.

I want to speak at a Coastal Advisory Committee. What do I do?

To speak at a Coastal Advisory Committee meeting, members of the audience are requested to complete one of the forms near the entrance of the meeting room and submit it to the Chairperson.

How can I serve on the Coastal Advisory Committee?

To become a member of the Coastal Advisory Committee citizens are asked to file an application with the City Clerk, prior to an interview and selection by the City Council.  These selections normally occur in June of each year, or at other times when a vacancy on the Committee occurs.  For more information on applications for Coastal Advisory Committee please send an email to CityClerk@san-clemente.org
