Public Safety Committee
Description:
The Public Safety Committee consists of eight members and serves as an advisory body to the City Council. The City Council shall appoint five technical professionals with a public safety background (such as a retired police, fire or marine chief, officer, lifeguard, etc.) to serve on the Public Safety Committee. The Committee shall also consist of one representative of the Orange County Sheriff Department (OCSD) to be appointed by San Clemente's Chief of Police Services, one representative of the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) to be appointed by San Clemente's Chief of Fire Services, and one representative from the City's Marine Safety Division to be appointed by the City Manager. The OCSD, OCFA and the Marine Safety Division representatives shall serve as ex-officio, non-voting members. Members of the Public Safety Committee need not be residents of San Clemente.
The Public Safety Committee's major functions and duties include reviewing public-safety performance measures and make recommendations to the City Council, and developing an annual work plan with specific goals and objectives for the coming year. The work plan, with recommendations, shall be submitted to the City Council on a yearly basis. The committee also performs such other duties as may be prescribed by the City Council.

Currently, the Public Safety Committee meets on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 3:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall at 910 Calle Negocio, San Clemente, CA 92673. Citizens are invited to listen to the recording of the meeting via the City’s YouTube channel at https://www.san-clemente.org/youtube.

Public Safety Task Force:
In 2018 the Public Safety Task Force reviewed, discussed and analyzed data to achieve consensus on recommendations for potential implementation measures related to Police Services. Additionally, the task force initiated and developed a community based public safety strategic planning process that resulted in a public safety strategic plan for the City Council to review and approve for future implementation.
This task force was comprised of various key stakeholders supported by a representative from the City Manager’s office.
