OHBC Pool Lane Availability Fall 2024
- Youth 8-14 years of age are permitted to swim laps during advertised Junior Lap Swim times, please visit Swim Times & Facility Hours for specific times and locations. The youth swimmer must be swimming in a proper manner continually swimming from one end of the pool to the other for the purpose of exercise.
- As a safety precaution, before participating in Junior Lap Swim all patron's 8-14 years of age must successfully complete a non-stop 15-yard Water Competency Swim Test, proctored by a City Lifeguard.
- For Junior lap Swim participants 8-14 years of age, a parent must remain present at the facility and actively watch their child, seated from the bleachers or swimming in an adjacent lane.
- Free Swim Test offered at the San Clemente Aquatics Center, Fridays 4:00pm-5:00pm, on a first come first serve basis. Water Competency Swim Test: Once a year all youth swimmers must successfully complete a non-stop 15-yard swim test, using a basic front crawl stroke. While testing, swimmers may not touch the bottom of the pool, must be able to get their arms out of the water and have a horizontal body position with forward motion in the water. After successful completion of the swim test, the swimmers name will be placed on the "Swim Test List" located at the front counter.
San Clemente Aquatics Center
Reservations will be exclusively available in Lanes 11-13 for 60-minute time blocks during all operating hours. Lap swim hours run in conjunction with pre-scheduled aquatics programs. Drop-in lap lanes may be limited. Lane sharing and circle swimming is required during peak hours..
Ole Hanson Beach Club
Public lap swim will be available by reservation in lanes 5-6 on Tuesday/Thursday 8:00am-12:00pm, and drop-in in lanes 1-4. Payment of the daily pool use fee is required for all individuals (swimmers and spectators) who will be visiting the facility. Locker rooms are open for full access.
The Beach Club front counter is a cash-free facility. All types of credit cards will be accepted for in-person payments on rentals, classes, and programming.
Reserved Lane Cancellation Policies
Cancellation of a reserved lap swim time must be done 12 hours prior to the reserved time if the time is not going to be used. Any person who does not utilize the reserved time and does not cancel the reservation (“No Show”) within the time limit above will be charged the full daily lap swim rate based upon their reservation, including swim pass holders. All balances must be paid prior to the next scheduled swim reservation. Patrons who are marked as “No Shows” from 3 reservations without canceling, will be suspended from any additional lap lane reservations for a period of one week (7 days). Drop-in swim will remain an option for individuals during that time period. This policy remains in effect rain or shine unless it is determined that the weather threatens the health and safety of pool patrons, resulting in a pool closure.
Appeals for exceptions must be submitted in writing to recreation@san-clemente.org. Extenuating circumstances will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. All appeals must be made within 72 hours of the reserved lap swim time.
Payment of the daily pool use fee is required for all individuals (swimmers and spectators). Space is limited.

Know Before Your Go
- Children under 8 years must be accompanied by an adult in the water, at arms reach of the children at all times. If a child is able to pass the swim test and the parent/guardian signs a waiver of liability, the parent may watch the child from the deck , but must stay in the facility at all times.
- All patrons and staff must self screen before entering the facility. If you are experiencing any symptoms of illness, please stay home and refrain from use of public facilities.
- Minors age 14 and under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and cannot be left unattended during the Recreation Swim reservation.
- Patrons who are not currently potty trained or are wearing diapers MUST wear plastic pants with elastic at the legs and waist (toddler sizes available for purchase online).
- Regular Recreation Swim and General Pool Rules apply.
- Diving boards are subject to availability during summer Recreation Swim.
- Waterslide riders must be a minimum of 36" inches to ride the water slides.
- The use of toys during Recreation Swim is prohibited.
- All flotation devices must be US Coast Guard approved. Upon request lifeguards may provide a life vest.
- A 10-minute safety break will be observed every hour, on the hour during Recreation Swim to check safety equipment and account for all patrons present.

Proof of residency is required to receive resident discount. Acceptable forms include: San Clemente utility bill, or car registration (for all passes), drivers license may be used for one day passes only. Active military members are eligible for the Resident discount with proof of current military ID.

Swim Pass / Lap Swim Blackout Dates
Lap swimming passholder blackout dates are dates on which a pass is not valid for pool admission, and pass holders may not drop-in or hold pool reservations. Blackout dates are subject to availability of the pool as determined by the Beaches, Parks and Recreation Department. Pass extensions or refunds will not be approved due to holiday hours, facility closures and/or blackout dates. Blackout dates where both facilities are simultaneously closed, not to exceed 20 days.

Financial Assistance/Scholarship Program (All Ages)
The City of San Clemente seeks to offer affordable programming for all members of the community. For those experiencing financial hardships, scholarships are available for all qualifying families. Course Cancellation & Refund Policy
- GENERAL REFUND GUIDELINES: All refunds must be requested in writing, click here. An $8.00 refund processing fee will apply per person, per class. No refunds or credits will be issued after the second class meeting. Non-attendance in a program is not grounds for a refund. Regardless of your payment method, all refunds will be issued in the form of a check within 3-4 weeks. When courses are cancelled by the City, a full refund will be issued.
- CLASS REFUND POLICY: All refund requests must be received before the start of second class meeting.

SWIM LESSON REFUND POLICY: For all Swim Lesson courses, the following criteria applies:
- If a refund request is received 72-hours before the start of the course, a refund, less processing fee, will be provided.
- If a request is received less than 72-hours in advance, but before the start of the second class meeting, a one-day prorated refund, less processing fees, will be provided.
- No refund will be issued after the second class meeting.
- For a course that is one day in length, if a request is received less than 72-hours in advance, no refund or credit will be issued.
Participant Code of Conduct
All participants and spectators are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times while attending any program or activity conducted or sponsored by the City of San Clemente Recreation Division. The following guidelines are designed to provide safe and enjoyable activities for all participants:
- Be respectful of all participants and program staff.
- Be respectful of city facilities and city property.
- Refrain from abusive, defamatory or foul language.
- Refrain from causing bodily harm to self, other participants, or program staff.
- Verbal or physical threats will not be tolerated.
- Follow non-smoking policies, city ordinances, and municipal codes.
- Maintain an acceptable standard of personal hygiene.
- Appropriate attire is required and may include uniforms, dance apparel, and proper swim wear.
- Participants who are under the influence of illegal drugs or intoxicated are prohibited from participating.
Failure to follow these rules may result in denial of program participation privileges. The City of San Clemente is dedicated to maintaining a safe, healthy atmosphere in which to live, work and play. Thank you for your cooperation.
Management reserves the right to deny the use of the pool to anyone at anytime. Any behavior deemed unsafe by the lifeguard is prohibited.
- No swimming without a lifeguard present, no deck acess without a lifeguard or city staff member present.
- Diving and head first entries from the pool deck is permitted only in designated areas with a water depth greater than 9-feet at the Ole Hanson Beach Club and 7-feet at the San Clemente Aquatics Center.
- Patrons who are not currently potty trained or are wearing a diaper MUST wear plastic pants with elastic at the legs and waist (toddler sizes available for purchase at front desk).
- Children under 8 years of age cannot be left unattended on the pool deck or facility. Adult supervision is required at all times.
- The following is prohibited: No running, roughhousing, fighting, dunking, shoulders rides , chicken fights, throwing / pushing people into the pool, jumping or diving backwards, spinning or flipping off the edge of the pool, submerged, hypoxic or breath holding activities.
- Specialized equipment such as kickboards, fins, or paddles are only permitted in the lap lanes. Patrons must be minimum 14 years old to participate in lap swim.
- Use of diving blocks is prohibited during public lap swim, unless prior approval is granted.
- During recreation swim, patrons shall abide by the following guidelines:
- Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by an adult, 18 years of age or older, who must be in the water within arms reach of the child at all times.
- If the child can pass a swim test and the parent/guardian signs a waiver of liability, the parent may watch the child from the deck, but must stay in the facility at all times.
- The use of toys, water wings, snorkels, balls and any other throwing or diving items is prohibited.
- Flotation devices must be US Coast Guard approved - see a lifeguard on duty to borrow an approved life jacket.
- A 10-minute safety break is observed every hour, on the hour during recreation swim to check safety equipment and account for all patrons present.
- Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by an adult, 18 years of age or older, who must be in the water within arms reach of the child at all times.
- Proper swim attire is required - scroll to bottom of page for details.
- Nudity, obscene behavior and lewd acts prohibited.
- No foul language, alcohol or drugs.
- No phones or cameras in the changing rooms or showers. Management must approve video recording and photography of any kind within the pool area.
- Steps, ladders, and railings are for the express use of entering and exiting the pool. No sliding on or down rails into the pool. No sitting, swinging, or hanging on: lane lines, ropes, or water polo goals.
- No smoking, gum chewing, or spitting.
- There is no changing on deck.
- Persons with bandages, open sores, cuts, or rashes are not permitted in pool. Bandages are prohibited in the pool.
- Animals are not permitted in the Aquatic facility or in the pool area, unless proper service animal paperwork can be provided.
- No glass containers are allowed.
- All patrons must shower before using the pool.
- Do not play with or move any of the pool equipment located on the pool deck or behind the bleachers. Safety equipment is for Aquatic Staff use only, including pool tarps and lane lines
- The City of San Clemente is not responsible for lost or stolen articles.
- Day-use lockers are available in the locker rooms on a first come, first serve basis. Please provide your own lock.
- Children 12 years or younger must be under direct supervision of a parent or responsible adult at all times while in locker rooms. Parents must be aware of the privacy of others when bringing their children into the locker room.
- When wet, please use locker room doors located off the pool deck to enter the facility.
- No persons shall conduct private aquatic business, such as teaching private lessons, coaching swimmers, stroke technique, diving, or competitive swimming without prior approval and permits.
- No skates, bikes, or skateboards are allowed in the pool area.
Deep End Rules
Swim test: Once per year all youth swimmers must successfully complete a non-stop 15 yard swim test, using a basic front crawl stroke before entering deep water or using the diving boards. While testing, swimmers may not touch the bottom of the pool, must be able to get their arms out of the water and have a horizontal body position with forward motion in the water. After successful completion of the swim test, swimmers will be given a wristband and must place their name on the "deep end list" located at the front counter. It is the sole responsibility of the swimmer to place their name on the this list. If the swimmer does not do so, a retest will be required each time they visit the facility and wish to use the deep water until their name is placed on the list.
- As a safety precaution, before gaining entrance to deep water all patron’s under 14 must successfully complete a non-stop 15 yard swim test, using crawl stroke, before entering deep water; weak or non-swimmers must remain in shallow water no deeper than armpit level (even while using a life jacket).
- Children under 8 years of age must pass a swim test and the parent/guardian is required to sign a waiver of liability to swim in the deep end. A parent must remain present at the facility and actively watch their child from the deck.
- Individuals requiring the use of flotation devices are NOT allowed to use the diving board during recreational swim.
Diving Board Rules
- Do not climb on the diving board ladder until the previous diver has reached the side of the pool. Divers must wait to enter the water until the preceding diver reaches the pool ladder.
- Only one person is allowed on the diving board at a time.
- Forward jumps only; dives off the front of the board are allowed. Do not jump dive to either side.
- Handstands or sitting dives are not permitted.
- Divers must swim to and exit from the ladder closest to the diving board from which they dove from.
- Swimming in the diving board area is prohibited while diving boards are open.
- Lifeguards reserve the right to stop any dives they feel endanger your safety or those around you.
- Patrons must wait until other divers or swimmers leave the diving area before diving.
- Divers must jump or dive using only one bounce. No running off the end of the board.
- Hanging off the end of the board is prohibited.
- Do not swim under the diving board.
- Before entering deep water or using diving boar, all persons ages 14 years and under will be required to pass a non-stop 15 yard swim test using crawl stroke.
- Individuals requiring the use of flotation devices are NOT allowed to use the diving boards.
- Fulcrums may only be adjusted Aquatics personnel. The fulcrum must remain in the forward position.
- Jumping off the diving board into the arms of another swimmer is not permitted, except during instructional activity.
- Diving blocks are for swim team and swim lessons only, as permitted.
Aqua Play Waterslide and Play Structure Rules
Safety Rules: Theses rules apply to the slides on the water play structure. The valves and handles are accessible to allow children and adults to throttle and play with the water.
- Maximum weight of rider is 300 LBS.
- You must be a minimum of 36” tall to ride the waterslides.
- Only one rider on the waterslide at one time - single riders only.
- Never form chains.
- Slides must be ridden feet first, lying on your back or in sitting position (sit up to go slower, lie down to go faster).
- No head-first sliding.
- Riders must wait for lifeguard's start signal before entering the waterslide.
- Swim wear with exposed zipper, buckles, rivets, or metal ornamentations is not permitted.
- Eye glasses must be securely affixed to the rider with head bands.
- Keep legs, arms, and hands inside the flume at all times.
- Do not run, dive, stand kneel, rotate or stop in the slide.
- At the end of the slide, obey all instructions by lifeguard and exit quickly.
- Children under 14 years old must be supervised by an adult while utilizing the structure.
- No running on or around the water play unit.
- No climbing on pipes or handrails.
- No hanging or swinging on pull ropes.
- Do not block the end of the slide.
- Leave the landing area quickly.
WARNING: FOR SAFETY REASONS, PREGNANT WOMEN AND PERSONS WITH HEART CONDITIONS OR BACK TROUBLE SHOULD NOT RIDE THESE WATERSLIDES.
Inflatable Obstacle Course Rules
- Participants under 14 must pass a swim test before entering the inflatable.
- Participants must have clearance from a Lifeguard before entering the inflatable.
- Participants are to form an orderly line before entering the inflatable.
- Participants are to step onto the unit one at a time.
- Participants must behave in a safe and orderly manner, no roughhousing; fighting, pushing, etc.
- Lifejackets and swim wear with exposed zippers, buckles, rivets or metal ornamentation are not permitted on the inflatable.
- Sunglasses, prescription glasses and goggles are prohibited.
- No diving off of the inflatable.
- No sharp or dangerous objects allowed on the inflatable.
- Participants must exit the inflatable quickly.
- No climbing on the inflatable while on the pool deck.
- No climbing back on the inflatable once participant has fallen off.
- No climbing on the inflatable unless securely anchored and permitted by a Lifeguard.
Proper Swim Attire Requirements
- All persons on the pool deck and/or swimming in the pool must have on proper swim attire.
- All persons using deck showers must have on proper swim attire; the removal or manipulation of swim attire is prohibited (i.e. pulling suit down, aside, or open to wash under suit).
- All persons requiring a diaper must wear plastic diaper covers with elastic and proper swimwear.
- The following articles of swimwear are not allowed while swimming:
- Brazil/French-cut, thong-style, and/or translucent swimwear
- Street clothes
- Jeans and cut-off jeans
- Skirts
- Shorts
- Sports bras
- Leggings
- Leotards
- Dri-fit wear
- Compression shorts and shirts
- Mermaid tails
- Underwear and undergarments are not allowed to be worn under swimsuits
- Regular diapers for children who are not potty trained
- Proper swimwear is required for the following reasons:
- Our facility is a multi-use family friendly facility and exposure of private parts is unacceptable at any time.
- Street clothing is more absorbent making it heavy and potentially dangerous to swim in.
- Street clothing is exposed to pollutants, bacteria, contaminants and chemicals that can disrupt pool chemistry.
- Street clothing is susceptible to damage by pool chemicals.
