The City will hold a second community meeting on Thursday February 29th, from 4-7pm in the City Council Chambers at City Hall to present revised draft nature based sand retention solutions for the City’s shoreline and to solicit feedback from the community on the revised concepts. The meeting will begin with an open house style format where the public can view the draft designs and will be followed by a presentation on the iterative design process and a listening session where the community can provide feedback to the City.
In late 2022, the City initiated a Nature Based Coastal Project Feasibility Study to develop solutions to address short-term and long-term coastal erosion by bringing sand to the City and developing ways of keeping the sand on the City’s beaches. This study is a companion effort to other ongoing City sand replenishment efforts to restore sandy beaches in the City. The Study will identify the best options for advancing sand retention elements and features.
As part of this effort, a second community meeting is planned so the public can see how the design concepts have been revised in response to stakeholder input on the initial round of designs published in September 2023. The City will use the additional feedback to further refine the designs which will be published in a draft feasibility study in late 2024.
The revised draft design concepts are designed to reduce erosion and stabilize and widen City beaches using techniques that replicate natural features or are nature based. Ultimately, the goal of the Nature Based Coastal Project Feasibility Study is to identify pilot projects for implementation in the City. More information is available at www.san-clemente.org/LCP.
Public input is an important part of the City’s coastal planning efforts. Residents and other stakeholders are encouraged to attend the meeting on 2/29/24 and provide input on the revised draft designs.
