Tryouts for City Lifeguard Positions | 7:00am

Tryouts:

Check-in at 7:00 a.m. at Lifeguard Headquarters, located on the beach north of the pier at 620 Avenida Del Mar

Applicants will compete in an approximate 800-yard ocean swim in 13 1/2 minutes or less. Successful candidates will then compete in a 1,200-yard run-swim-run. The use of wetsuits, goggles, fins, or other swimming aids are not permitted.

The top candidates from the physical tests will be invited to an interview which will be held on the same day.

 

Training: 

The top candidates from the interview process will be invited to participate in a mandatory 92-hour training program held on the following dates February 24, 25, and March 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, and 24.

 

Eligibility:

To be eligible, candidates must be at least 16 years old with a valid work permit by June 15, 2024 and must be available for all 92 hours of training. Applicants under the age of 18 must have a signed parental consent form prior to participating in the tryouts. Applicants must either complete an on-line application at www.san-clemente.org/jobs or apply in person at the Marine Safety Division Headquarters.

The Ocean Lifeguard position is paid $20.11 to $24.44 and the entry level Lifeguard Trainee pay is $15.75 per hour.
