04-05-24 Press Release - Update to Beach Trail Closures

4/5/24 Update:  The following areas of the San Clemente Beach Trail are currently closed:

El Portal access to Mariposa access
The major movement of the slope has required bridge sections from the Mariposa Bridge to be removed. Orange County Transportation Authority has performed emergency work in the area to stabilize the slope and restore train service through San Clemente. Long-term solutions for this area will require additional repair and improvements. The timeline for restoring this important Beach Trail connection is unknown.

North Beach access to El Portal access
The emergency stabilization work in the area of the Mariposa Bridge required modifications to the Trail surface and structures. Facilitating this emergency work has resulted in damage to the Trail surface, and repair in this area is now required. While access to the beach at Dije Court and El Portal has been restored, the City is working towards completing Trail surface repairs, and reopening this area for Trail use as soon as possible.

Pedestrian Bridge at Riviera
The Beach Trail pedestrian bridge at Riviera is closed temporarily to facilitate necessary treatment and coating (paint) to extend its service life. The Riviera Bridge will remain closed until May 24, 2024.
