General Municipal Election – November 4, 2008
A General Municipal Election has been scheduled to be held in the City of San Clemente on November 4, 2008, for the following Officers:

For Two Members of the City Council Full Term of Four Years
For a City Treasurer Full Term of Four Years
For a City Clerk Full Term of Four Years
Additionally, the following measures will appear on the November 4, 2008 ballot:

City Voter Approval to Redesignate Open Space Lands to Non-Open Space Uses
Shall an ordinance amending the Land Use Element of the City of San Clemente General Plan to require City voter approval of General Plan Amendments, Specific Plan Amendments, Specific Plan adoptions and Zoning Amendments that change the permitted uses of open space lands to non-open space uses be adopted?

Should the City approve the LAB North Beach project, with Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, consisting of retail and restaurant uses, and public areas on City-owned property, including the triangular North Beach parking lot area, subject to: conforming to North Beach Parking and Traffic Master Plans, City scenic view policies, and land sale price based on City-approved direction?

The City's Elections are held in November of even-numbered years. The next General Municipal Election will be held on November 4, 2008.

The number of registered voters in San Clemente: 40,265 (2008)

You will need to re-register if there has been a change in your status since the last election (name change, moved, etc.). Registration forms are available at City Hall - 100 Avenida Presidio, or on-line at www.oc.ca.gov/election


Candidate Information (Process to Seek Election for Member of the City Council, City Treasurer and City Clerk)
Any person desiring to seek election for Member of the City Council, City Treasurer or City Clerk must be a registered voter of the City of San Clemente at the time nomination papers are issued by the City Clerk. The nomination period for the November 4, 2008 election begins on July 14, 2008 and closes on August 8, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. During this period, individuals may take out, circulate and file nomination papers. If an incumbent of any of the offices being voted upon to be filled at the November 4, 2008 election does not file nominations papers by 5:00 p.m. on August 8, 2008, the filing period is extended until August 13, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. During this extension period, any eligible person, other than the incumbent, may take out, circulate, and file nomination papers for that office.

Citizens interested in taking out nomination papers are encouraged to call the City Clerk’s Office at 949-361-8345.
