San Clemente Senior Mobility Program
|
Senior residents in San Clemente have options for travel within the City. In helping seniors improve their quality of life and lead independent lives, the San Clemente Senior Mobility Program is available free of charge to transport residents to and from shopping centers and to the downtown area to the Senior Center Monday through Friday where lunch is served and activities are offered. The service is not available on weekends or holidays.

SENIOR NON-EMERGENCY MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION
|
South County Senior Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Program is funded by the County
of Orange, Office on Aging, through monies received from the National Tobacco Settlement.
The program was developed to provide seniors with access to transportation to their nonemergency
medical appointments including therapy, dentistry, hearing, dialysis, prescription
pick-ups, testing and x-rays.
PARTICIPANT CRITERIA:
Participants must be at least 60 years of age and ineligible for OCTA ACCESS services.
Participants must reside within the South Orange County designated service area, which
includes the cities of Aliso Viejo, Dana Point, Irvine, Laguna Woods, Laguna Niguel,
Laguna Hills, Laguna Beach, Lake Forest, Foothill Ranch, Mission Viejo, Ladera Ranch,
Newport Beach, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano and
Capistrano Beach.

forms. *Participants must register through the mail prior to utilizing the service.
SERVICE CRITERIA:
Transportation will be provided within the designated service area: San Clemente to the
South/ Irvine and Newport Beach to the North*. Destination addresses that fall outside of
the designated service area are limited to maximum trip length of 15 miles from the client
residence to the medical facility.
In addition to medical facilities within the designated service area, this program also
serves: Kaiser Anaheim (Lakeview), UCI Medical Center Orange, St. Joseph’s Hospital of
Orange and the Long Beach Veterans Hospital.
Clients are limited to a maximum of eight one-way trips per month (or four round-trips)
with the exception of on-going medical treatments such as chemotherapy, dialysis,
radiation treatments and physical therapy.
Rides must be scheduled at least 24-hours in advance and will be given on a first come,
first serve basis.
Riders will be charged $2.75 per one-way trip and must have exact change. Care
attendants ride free of charge.
TRANSPORTATION HOURS:
Monday thru Friday – 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Transportation is not available on major holidays
* All trips exceeding 15 miles in length are subject to program funding and availability

Group Transportation Services
|
Group transportation services are provided to San Clemente’s resident seniors free of charge to the San Clemente Senior Center for lunch and activities five days a week, Monday through Friday. Seniors residing in San Clemente are picked up from their homes (door to door service). Seniors are currently picked up in the early (8:00 a.m.) to mid morning (9:30 a.m.) and transported to the Senior Center.
The contractor works with seniors to determine the hours of service that best suit their needs; thus, the pickup hours are subject to modification. Seniors are provided a return trip from the Senior Center to their homes between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. This service is available to all seniors residing in the City of San Clemente. Frail seniors, seniors in wheelchairs, and elderly in general will be provided assistance on and off the vehicle, door to door. Hours of service will be subject to change based on demand or to improve productivity.

Shopper Shuttle
|
Grocery Shopper Shuttle is provided to San Clemente’s resident seniors free of charge for the shuttle ride to the grocery store and back to their homes three days a week (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday). Weekend or holiday service is not available. This does not exceed three (3) hours of transportation time to and from the grocery store. The Shopper Shutter takes San Clemente’s senior residents to select shopping centers in the City (i.e. Albertsons, Ralphs, Wal-Mart, Lowes, etc.). The contractor will allow demand to dictate where the seniors are transported and achieve the best use of the available service hours.

12,049 Senior Citizens
|
12,049 senior citizens reside in San Clemente, making up 18.9 percent of the population. The program is very popular with seniors who otherwise would not have a regular means of transportation and with those who like to get out in a social group setting for lunch and activities.
Funding for the City’s Senior Mobility Program is provided from three sources. Eighty percent of the operating costs are provided by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) and the County Office on Aging. The City of San Clemente provides the remaining 20 percent.
Senior residents of San Clemente who are interested in participating in the program, can call the San Clemente Senior Center at (949) 498-3322 to complete an application. South County Senior Services (SCSS), the City’s contractor for senior transportation can also be reached at (949) 498-0400 to answer any questions or concerns. All of SCSS’s drivers possess specialized driver’s licensing certification for the operation of the vehicles and are required to complete ongoing refresher training to assure that their skills in vehicle operation and in assisting special needs passengers remain at a high level.

San Clemente’s SeniorNet Cyber Café, sponsored by the Friends of the Beaches, Parks and Recreation Foundation, offers computer courses designed around the needs of the community’s senior citizens. SeniorNet is an international non-profit parent organization, which teaches the mysteries of computerland to older adults. Classes range from computer fundamentals and word processing to e-mail, the Internet and digital photography.
